At Blue State Digital, we couldn’t be happier to partner with EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, dedicated to electing pro-choice women candidates to local, state, and national offices. On April 25, our redesign of emilyslist.org launched to some acclaim and a lot of excitement (especially for those of us who’ve been longtime supporters). The re-imagined website not only carries a refreshed EMILY’s List brand, but preps the organization for a big year of critical races.
It’s a disheartening truth that women are vastly outnumbered in nearly every elected position. EMILY’s List has been behind a long list of successful, landmark elections since its founding nearly three decades ago. In all of its endeavors, EMILY’s List has worked tirelessly to recruit the strongest candidates, study the electorate, and turn out the vote.
In a year when the news cycle has focused (often contentiously) on women’s healthcare, equal pay, voting rights, and educational opportunity, the EMILY’s List mission is, well, extremely urgent.
The new site makes it easier to attract potential supporters, educate voters and raise funds for critical races. With a renewed focus on candidates, the site provides quick access to the facts—what each candidate stands for, why their race matters, what they’re facing from adversaries and the media—and then offers an easy way to donate directly to their campaign.
We wanted the site to be relevant, so we designed a responsive experience geared towards the passions of those who visit, being both respectful of their time and willingness to contribute. And we also customized the BSD Tools to help the organization know their supporters better and grow lists more quickly—an easy way to support some ambitious goals. The result is an experience that makes politics and giving feel more personal.
We can’t wait for EMILY’s List to elect more, powerful women to congress, inspire others to add their name to the ballot, and get out the vote for progressive, pro-choice women candidates across the nation. We also can’t wait to help this incredible organization along the way.
