Independent journalism gets its due with The Nation’s selection for best Political Website. In celebration of their 150th anniversary, The Nation and Blue State worked together on the launch of a new site to bring this storied publication to the next generation of readers. It’s apropos that the bastion for progressive journalism is also up for the Webby People’s Voice Award. So let’s GOTV and make a win for independent, progressive journalism.

Also up for People’s Voice is New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts for best School/University Website. Reflecting their vibrant, creative community, the new Tisch experience honors the extraordinary qualities of each department, while showcasing the omnipresent, dynamic energy that pulses through the entire school. We’re extremely proud that the Sierra Club’s new advocacy platform, AddUp.org, has been selected as an Official Webby Honoree in the Green category. The platform demonstrates the future of digital advocacy, blending the dynamics of grassroots organizing with the power of big data, predictive recommendations, and integrated social sharing to increase action and demonstrate collective impact.

The Association of American Medical Colleges also gets recognized as an Official Webby Honoree for best Associations site for The American Doctor Shortage. The site’s deliberately different storytelling approach and graphic-novel-style design brought much needed awareness of the impending shortage to key influencers on Capitol Hill.

And cheers to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Stand Up to Cancer initiative #KissCancerGoodbye. The Valentine’s Day campaign was honored for best social promotions and contests. The hashtag was used over 10,000 times on social and raised awareness for SU2C’s goal of turning cancer patient into survivors.
