(NEW YORK) Blue State, a leading creative agency and strategic advisor for purpose-driven organizations, announced the expansion of their new Strategic Communications offering with the hires of VP of Strategic Communications, Christopher Huntley, VP of Strategic Communications & Creative Director, Rachel Kopilow and Sr. Director of Strategic Communications, Lauren Tsuboyama.

Huntley, a speechwriter and communications strategist by trade, has extensive political experience developing narrative strategies in the fight for social, racial, and economic justice. Prior to joining Blue State, Christopher served as Senior Speechwriter to Senator and former Presidential Candidate, Elizabeth Warren. Previously, he was Communications Director for Congresswoman Barbara Lee, one of the nation’s most progressive policy makers.

During the 2016 Presidential election, Christopher served as Millennial Media Director for former Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton and Speechwriter for the 2016 Democratic National Convention.  Huntley’s skill set in message strategy will expand Blue State’s Strategic Communications practice.

Kopilow joins Blue State after running the video team for Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 Presidential Campaign. Kopilow oversaw a team of 20 that handled messaging, creative, and delivery for social media content, as well as TV and digital ads. Prior to that role, Kopilow was the Deputy Director of Video in The White House Office of Digital Strategy under President Obama. Kopilow joins Blue State with her own team in tow: Esther Chan, Senior Video Editor and Isabel Farrington, Senior Producer.

Both Chan and Farrington will work alongside Kopilow as a cohesive unit, tackling in-house video production for an array of clients. Chan most recently served as the Senior Video Editor on Elizabeth Warren’s Presidential and Senate re-election campaigns and also has vast experience in the advocacy nonprofit sector after serving as a video producer for The ONE Campaign. Farrington joins Blue State from the video team for Elizabeth Warren’s campaigns as a Senior Video Producer.

Tsuboyama joins Blue State after recently serving as Vice President of Communications at Regional Plan Association, the nation’s oldest urban planning, research and advocacy non-profit, overseeing the organization’s strategy and message development, media relations and publications. Previously, Lauren served as Communications Director for New York City Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr., working on key citywide and South Bronx issues including affordable housing, homelessness, public housing, education, community planning and environmental justice. Prior to the City Council, Lauren was an Account Supervisor at BerlinRosen, leading media relations strategies for advocacy and real estate clients in New York, and was a public relations strategist in the Travel and Lifestyle Department at Finn Partners. Tsuboyama will work alongside Huntley and Kopilow as team leadership to help drive the infrastructure of the practice and manage incoming opportunities.

Blue State’s Camonghne Felix, VP of Strategic Communications, is elated to grow the team and work with these talented new hires. “Christopher, Rachel, Lauren, Isabel, and Esther bring a wealth of unmatched experience and expertise that will help advance this practice as we continue to mobilize communities and ignite change.”
