Senior Strategist, Content & Campaigns, UK

The Role

Help us drive real change for real people, by helping our teams and clients; from refugee support to child health, women and girls empowerment and poverty elimination. We’re looking for an expert in digital communications, with prior leadership experience in terms of setting strategy for, writing, and executing email, SMS, or ad campaigns. In this job you will own projects from start to finish, partner closely with colleagues to drive forward progress and programmes, strengthen client work by building relationships with clients directly, and contribute to the knowledge and expertise of the Content & Campaigns team as a whole.

The team currently works with organisations from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Plan International, UNICEF, Google, WaterAid, and many more, and we are looking for an individual who can partner with these organisations to deliver best-in-class work.


  • Lead in the development and delivery of cross-channel digital campaigns (everything from concepts to calendars to copy) that mobilise audiences to donate, advocate, engage and more.
  • Take ownership of the accounts they work on, operating as an active collaborator and true partner to other team members, with the full confidence of their colleagues. 
  • Develop communication strategies and campaign frameworks for a range of clients and objectives. 
  • Present to clients in a succinct, persuasive, compelling manner.
  • Write succinct and persuasive copy for email, paid media, and related channels.
  • Work closely with analysts, strategists and paid media planners to develop testing plans and optimise campaigns.
  • Collaborate with designers to bring ideas to life through beautiful graphics and copy.
  • Manage rapid response moments.

Other responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a deep and well-rounded knowledge of strategic goals and KPIs for fundraising and advocacy.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of the social, political and economic issues that impact your clients as well as continual education within your discipline.
  • Stay aware of the latest digital campaign trends, and develop a POV on how/whether our clients should take advantage of them to push their programs forward.
  • Advance knowledge and professional development across the Content and Campaigns team by attending conferences and workshops, and contributing to team meetings.

The Team

This role will sit within our Content and Campaigns team, a team made up of talented digital fundraisers and communications experts. Our resumes boast diverse backgrounds in advertising, political campaigns, journalism, nonprofit marketing and much more. Writing great copy is at the heart of what we do, but we are so much more than copywriters -- we develop campaign strategies, brainstorm creative, develop testing plans, collaborate with designers and are never above a terrible pun. In short, we have a lot of fun while helping our clients change the world.

Currently, we are trialling hybrid working, targeting 2 days all-in, and the rest at each person’s preference as our future working model. We are also open to discussing flexible working hours and arrangements to ensure our people can do the work they love around the life they want to live.

Top things we're looking for

  • 5+ years experience in digital fundraising, advocacy, product growth or similar
  • Experience with and interest in team management and mentorship
  • A passion for progressive causes
  • A desire to take ownership and lead projects from start to finish 
  • Impeccable writing skills
  • An equal interest in strategy and creative work
  • Empathy, communication, respect, and the ability to act as a role model at Blue State
  • Experience with paid media or SMS campaigns is a plus!
